Celebrity autograph collecting is a fun hobby. The return on your time and effort can be very rewarding. When writing to a celebrity for a request, always follow a few standard guidelines. Here are the things to keep in mind:

Tip #1 - Find a celebrity you would like to write to and start doing some research. You can obtain the celebrity address through several sources:

  1. Join autograph e-mail groups
  2. Buy a current address list
  3. From the internet (check out Our Favorite Links)
  4. Autograph Collectors magazine
  5. Call or write to:
  6. Screen Actors Guild Los Angeles, CA 90036 Tel: (213) 954-1600 http://www.sag.com/

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Beverly Hills, CA 90211 Tel: (310) 247-3000
Tip #2 - Write a letter to the celebrity (check out Sample Letter). You should first mention your admiration for the person's work (movie, book, political work, whatever they do), and then make sure you ASK for the autograph. Your letter should be no more than a single page (a long letter usually won't get read). You can either type or hand-write your letters (it does not matter). However, if you do hand-write the letter, it should be legible.

Tip #3 - After you have your letter written, put it into a #9 business envelope along with a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE). You may also want to put a 4x6 or 3x5 index card with your request (sometimes the celebrity may not have a photograph to sign with). However, it's optional.

Tip #4 - Keep a log on who you write to and when you wrote to them just incase you want to write to them again or advise a friend.

Tip #5 - Be patient and have FUN!
